Atheism And Politics

I myself am an atheist, (I wouldn't say a proud one, it's just that it's the belief with the most scientific evidence to back it up).

But religion isn't all about belief, it is also about how you live your life; some recognized religions don't have a god figure at all (eg. Buddhism). I or we (Dependant on your views) may not agree with these particular ways of living life; some people say "Most western societies base a lot of their laws upon Christian values." I disagree. A lot of religions and beliefs share the same base moral values and laws (sins); In fact i do not believe that these are based on religion more the religion is based on the values, values that a lot of people (including Atheists) share. these values are just human nature not belief.

There are values that a lot of people disagree on. (eg. Pro-life Vs. Pro-choice). and in extreme cases some people from different religions (or cultures) refuse to tolerate each other thinking they are solely right and any other ideas therefore must be wrong. I think this is the wrong attitude; regardless of wether you are right ebyond any reasonable doubt in your mind you should think to yourself "they think the same way" and you see, the thing is; The worst way a religion can be imposed upon you is through law. But, if a political party which implements it's religious views into legislation got the most votes, then surely most people agreed this should be the case? This is Democracy.

However the Republican party of America did not get the most votes. (you don't need to to win an election in the US. [which is a bit dumb] you only need to win a majority in more states than the opposition.)

Ok. Imagine two parties. Party A and party B. Imagine there are 5 states. With the following results, party A could win with less total votes:

State 1 votes = 51% Party A, 49% party B
State 2 votes = 51% Party A, 49% party B
State 3 votes = 51% Party A, 49% party B
State 4 votes = 0% Party A, 100% party B
State 5 votes = 0% Party A, 100% party B

Party A total % = 153
Party B total % = 347

Of course the results weren't be this extreme but would result in party A winning office with less than half the votes because they got the majority in the most states. The republicans did just this.

If you haven't already seen them, the iconic Mac adverts often show the PC as the nerd from Nerdville and the Mac as the cool guy; both talking about various things but usually ending in a less-than-subtle way of Mac saying "Look what we can do!"Anyway, I found this picture, it made me laugh. thought you lot would want to see it.

Research on bread indicates that:

1. More than 98 percent of convicted felons are bread users.
2. Fully HALF of all children who grow up in bread-consuming households score below average on standardized tests.
3. In the 18th century, when virtually all bread was baked in the home, the average life expectancy was less than 50 years; infant mortality rates were unacceptably high; many women died in childbirth; and diseases such as typhoid, yellow fever, and influenza ravaged whole nations.

4. More than 90 percent of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread.
5. Bread is made from a substance called "dough." It has been proven that as little as one pound of dough can be used to suffocate a mouse. The average American eats more bread than that in one month!

6. Primitive tribal societies that have no bread exhibit a low incidence of cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, and osteoporosis.
7. Bread has been proven to be addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water to eat begged for bread after as little as two days.
8. Bread is often a "gateway" food item, leading the user to "harder" items such as butter, jelly, peanut butter, and even cold cuts.
9. Bread has been proven to absorb water. Since the human body is more than 90 percent water, it follows that eating bread could lead to your body being taken over by this absorptive food product, turning you into a soggy, gooey bread-pudding person.

10. Newborn babies can choke on bread.
11. Bread is baked at temperatures as high as 400 degrees Fahrenheit! That kind of heat can kill an adult in less than one minute.
12. Most American bread eaters are utterly unable to distinguish between significant scientific fact and meaningless statistical babbling.

In light of these frightening statistics, it has been proposed that the following bread restrictions be made:

1. No sale of bread to minors.
2. A nationwide "Just Say No To Toast" campaign, complete celebrity TV spots and bumper stickers.
3. A 300 percent federal tax on all bread to pay for all the societal ills we might associate with bread.
4. No animal or human images, nor any primary colors (which may appeal to children) may be used to promote bread usage.
5. The establishment of "Bread-free" zones around schools.

Get rich or die tryin is a website dedicated to getting rich on the internet (as the title suggests). Apart from being every informative and high quality; you would think it to be like any other online money making schemes "portfolio" but in fact what makes it stand out is it's odd talent to always come up on the "Next Blog" button (the button on the top bar of the blogger interface which takes you to a random blogger site). This to me isn't that annoying, because i myself like the site; but i do wonder why on earth blogger does this. if anyone has any ideas; id like to hear from you.

Microsoft have discovered a nasty little bug affecting Internet Explorer, Outlook and Outlook Express which stops the program from displaying the full URL of a link in the status bar. In essence, IE truncates the display of the URL when it encounters %01, so that http://www.paypal.co.uk%01@www.stealmypasswords.com would display as http://www.paypal.co.uk. Instead of announcing a fix for the problem, Microsoft offered some helpful advice:

Strange Times Online Hold Page During Site Overhaul

This hold page differs from what most sites do quite a bit don't you agree! "times online has gone to the pub". Jokers. well the Times has made it's new site even though it may seem a waste with the hefty price tag of £10 Million but it seems... Ok.. personally I would have kept it as it was; it was perfectly fine before.
